FAQ's?

How does it work?

Life Cover is an insurance policy that pays out a lump sum to your beneficiary or estate should you pass away or develop a terminal illness. A premium is paid every month in exchange for the assurance that Viva Life will pay a lump sum of money to ensure the financial protection of your family and dependants after your death.

In the event that a claim is submitted for a terminal illness, premiums will continue to be billed until you pass away

When should I buy Life cover?

While it is best to begin Life Insurance as soon as you can, someone with dependants (such as non-working spouse, children, other family) is likely to gain more from the investment than if you are a single person or a spouse of someone who earns enough for your family to live on should you pass away.

When does my cover begin?

Cover begins once your application has been assessed and approved by Viva Life and your first due premium has been paid.

Is there a waiting period when I cannot claim?

If your death is a result of an accident you will be covered immediately. There is a 6 month waiting period where claims won't be paid if your death is due to natural causes. We will also only pay 50% of your benefit amount if you die after month 6 and before month 18, however, you will be fully covered after this period.

What happens if I miss a payment?

Should you miss a payment for any reason, Viva Life will collect a double debit the following month and if your policy lapses you will have to reapply for cover, and the applicable waiting period applies.

Why should I buy Disability cover?

Disability Cover is ideal for a long-term solution when it comes to protecting yourself against financial pressure in the event of disability. We tend not to confront the reality of disability and the dramatic effect it could have on ourselves and families. The best thing about using an independent provider as opposed to company perks is that your cover is not tied up with your current job, meaning you're cover is managed by you, not your employer.

Are the proceeds from an insurance policy taxable?

The proceeds from an insurance policy are not taxable because of their nature. The proceeds are of a capital nature and are therefore not taxable as income. All proceeds that are of a capital nature are subject to Capital Gains Tax. However, the proceeds from insurance are exempt from Capital Gains Tax.

FAQ's?

When should I buy Bill Protection?

Many individuals prefer to postpone the purchase of any insurance until such a time that they have dependents. It is important to ask yourself if anyone will suffer financially if you were to die. It would be unwise to delay purchasing such insurance.

What is the difference between Bill Protection and Income Protection?

Bill protection is another name for short term income protection. This type of insurance pays you a monthly (amount decided by you when you take the policy out) to help you cover bills up to the amount allocated to your monthly premium.

Income protection insurance is a form of long term cover when you lose your job and no longer have a salary. It assists you in making ends meet while you search for a new job. Redundancies, injuries or debilitating illnesses can come out of nowhere, causing you to no longer have an income. When you meet with such a circumstance, you'll still need to keep up payments and provide for your family.

When does my cover begin?

Cover begins once your application has been approved by the insurance company and your first premium due, has been paid.

Is there a waiting period when I cannot claim?

There is a 6 month claim waiting period on your policy and we will not pay out if your death is not as a result of an accident.

How long does it take my beneficiary to receive my money after I die?

Your beneficiary can receive payment within 48 hours of the claim. Promptness of payment is dependent on the correct documentation being supplied to us.

FAQ's?

How does Income Protection work?

If you become permanently disabled, Viva Life will pay the selected lump sum in line with the benefit limitations. The cover will cease:

  • When you reach age 65 or
  • should you pass away
  • if 100% of the benefit is settled

Why should I buy Income Protection Cover?

Income Protection Cover is ideal for a long-term solution when it comes to protecting yourself against financial pressure in the event of disability. We tend not to confront the reality of disability and the dramatic effect it could have on ourselves and families. The best thing about using an independent provider as opposed to company perks is that your cover is not tied up with your current job, meaning you're cover is managed by you, not your employer.

When does my cover begin?

Cover begins once your application has been assessed and approved by Viva Life and your first due premium has been paid.

What happens if I miss a payment?

Should you miss a payment for any reason, we will collect a double debit order the following month for up to a maximum of 3 months. If your policy lapses and you would like to reinstate and resume payments, waiting periods would reapply.

Is there a waiting period when I cannot claim?

There is a 6 month waiting period (from Commencement Date) where claims cannot be made for payment. We will also only pay 50% of your claim amount if you are disabled after month 6 and before month 18. We will however honour your claim in the first 6 months if your disability was the result of an accident.

What is the difference between Disability Cover and Income Protection?

Disability cover is there so that you can make changes to your lifestyle and home while Income Protection is there to replace your income should you become disabled. Disability cover provides a once off lump sum payment, while Income Protection is a monthly payment in to your bank account.
